Firm History

Edge began providing investment management services in 1939, including one of the first 50 mutual funds in the U.S. This mutual fund was called the Composite Bond Fund, which was the initial predecessor to what is now known as the Principal Equity Income Fund.

Edge was originally called The Bond Research Corporation and was one of the first registered investment advisers in the northwest. The company’s name changed over the years as a result of acquisitions to eventually become Edge Asset Management in December 2006.

Key dates in Edge’s history include:

1939 – Investment management services provided to the Composite Bond Fund

1944 – Company incorporated in Washington State

1968 – Company registered with the SEC

1996 – Asset allocation strategies are registered1, eventually becoming known as the Strategic Asset Management Portfolios

1998 – Name was changed to WM Advisors, Inc.

2006 – Principal Financial Group acquired WM Advisors and rebranded as Edge Asset Management

2018 – Edge became a standalone equity team within Principal Global Investors

Today – Edge manages over $16.2 billion
